Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Training (Sept 22 & 23)

Nebraska Total Care is providing a no-cost Virtual Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Training for Nebraska Total Care providers. This training will be held online via Zoom on Thursday, Sep 22, and Friday, Sep 23, 8:30-5:00 Central time each day.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma that includes participation by their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences.
Please carefully review the Who May Attend and Pre-Training Requirements information provided below before registering. If you meet criteria and can commit to the pre-training requirements, please register using the registration link highlighted in yellow near the end of this email as soon as possible to secure a spot. We expect the class to fill quickly.
Who May Attend
Only clinicians who meet all of the following criteria are eligible to attend:
- Contracted in-network provider with Nebraska Total Care or in the credentialing process
- Master's degree or above in a mental health discipline
- Professional licensure in home state (or under supervision for licensure)
- Actively treating children/adolescents in your state’s foster care/child welfare system. (You do not have to have a foster child on your current caseload, but you need to regularly have the potential of treating a child in foster care.)
- Have not participated in a live or virtual TF-CBT Training with us before
- Can commit to and participate in the follow-up TF-CBT Consultation Call Program consisting of twice-monthly, one-hour group conference calls for six months

Learning Objectives and Outcomes
- Participants will identify and discuss the rationale and benefits of the use of this trauma-specific treatment intervention for children and families experiencing post-traumatic stress and other emotional / behavioral impacts of significant adverse events.
- Participants will have an opportunity to review, appraise and discuss the outcome evidence supporting the efficacy of TF-CBT.
- Participants will identify and summarize, via the use of case studies and examples, how to implement the components of P.P.R.A.C.T.I.C.E the phase-oriented approach and the efficacy of this model for treating trauma and traumatic grief.
- Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate the process and approach of completing the Trauma Narrative with a practice case.
- Participants will observe and practice strategies for intervening with both children and their parents or caregivers through training demonstrations and role-plays.
- Participants will be able to verbalize and list the steps needed to develop improved fidelity adherence through ongoing post-training consultation, and the process leading to TF-CBT certification by the model developers.
Cost
The training and follow-up consultation are provided at no cost by Nebraska Total Care as part of our continuing effort to help clinicians treating children in foster care enhance their skills and utilize the best evidence-based tools available.
There is a $35 cost for taking the Medical University of South Carolina’s online TF-CBTWeb 2.0 training. If you've already taken this training, you do not need to take it again. Please email your completion certificate to kingram@centene.com.
Times
Plan to log in and be ready to go 8:30-5:00 Central time each day with a 60-minute lunch break around 12:00 Central time each day. We will email registered attendees more details before the class. After you complete the pre-training requirements below, you’ll receive an email with a Zoom link and time to join the training sessions on the day before the training.
Two Separate Pieces of Pre-Training Work Due by EOB Friday Sep 16, 2022:
- You must complete the Medical University of South Carolina’s online TF-CBTWeb 2.0 training available for 11 hours of CE credit (in addition to the 14 hours of CE credit for available for this training). This training costs $35. You are required to email your completion certificate to Lisa Reed lisa.reed@centene.com by EOB on Friday, Sep 16, or your registration will be canceled and your spot offered to a waitlisted clinician to give them the opportunity to complete the TF-CBTWeb 2.0 course and attend the training. Other clinicians have reported that it took them 9-11 hours to complete the training, so we encourage you to start early with the TF-CBTWeb training. Please note that emailing an older certificate is fine. You do not need to take the training again.
- You must also complete the Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen (CATS) Assignment in the Microlearning platform UMU by EOB Friday Sep 16, 2022. It will be assigned to you via email after you register. The assignment includes downloading and printing some forms (3 pdf files, 19 pages), watching a required 18-minute video, taking a short Pre Test, and watching an optional 17-minute video. It should take less than an hour to complete. There is no certificate to email for the CATS Assignment. We monitor UMU online to see who has completed the assignment.
Continuing Education
This training is worth 14 Continuing Education Hours with the following boards:
- Texas: In accordance with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council, Centene’s CE Program follows the rules for the CE Provider outlined by Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (LPC), Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), and the Texas Board of Social Work Examiners (SW). It is the licensee’s responsibility to ensure the applicability of the topic for their profession and adherence to the CE requirements for their specific board.
- State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (LPC, LMFT & SW): SW 159.001308; Counseling 197.000241; MFT 168.000219
- Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Pre-approved for Social Work Continuing Education. Appropriate for Behavioral Health Licenses: 13-006 (pre-approval for SW only)
- NBCC: Centene has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6673. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Centene is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
